Gate vs Terminal: Where Do I Go?
A terminal is a building of the airport; a gate is a specific boarding door within it. You go to the terminal for check-in and security, then to your gate to board. The gate can change, so check the screens.
Terminal
Large airports have more than one terminal, sometimes for different airlines or for domestic and international flights. Your airline or ticket shows the terminal. If you are unsure, check with your airline before you travel.
Gate
The gate (or stand) is where boarding happens. Airports often assign gates late, and they can change if aircraft or flights are re-planned. Screens in the terminal show your gate and are updated.
Remote stands
Some flights park away from the terminal. Passengers then board by bus or on foot from a boarding gate. This is common at smaller airports and busy times.
Tips
- Confirm the terminal before you leave home.
- Check screens after security and again before walking to the gate.
- Allow time: some gates are far from security.
- Listen for announcements; changes are announced.

Gates and terminals are not shown, because they are not part of public ADS-B data. Use the airline’s app, the airport screens and our airport guides for general advice.
