How Many Passengers Do Common Planes Carry?

Passenger numbers depend on the aircraft and on how the airline arranges the cabin. These are typical ranges, not exact figures for any airline.

Typical seats

  • ATR 72 (turboprop): about 70.
  • Embraer E190: about 100.
  • Airbus A320: about 150 to 180.
  • Boeing 737-800: about 160 to 190.
  • Airbus A321: about 185 to 220.
  • Boeing 787 Dreamliner: about 240 to 330.
  • Airbus A330: about 250 to 300.
  • Airbus A350: about 300 to 410.
  • Boeing 777-300ER: about 350 to 400.
  • Airbus A380: about 500 to 600 in common layouts, more in all-economy.

Why the numbers vary

Airlines choose how many seats and classes to install. A business-class cabin takes more space per seat, so the same aircraft carries fewer people. Low-cost airlines pack more seats.

Load factor

Not every seat is filled. The share filled is the load factor.
